Home Performance Consultants joins the Dept. of Energy's Builders Challenge

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has posed a challenge to the homebuilding industry - to build 220,000 high performance homes by 2012. The initiative is called the Builders Challenge, and homes that qualify must meet a 70 or better on the EnergySmart Home Scale (E-Scale). The E-Scale is a scale that allows homebuyers to understand - at a glance - how the performance of a particular home compares to that of others. Contact us for more information.

Q. What kind of work can I get done?
A.Some of the more common work includes adding insultion, reducing drafts (air sealing), and repairing or upgrading heating systems. We can also provide additional information on what can be done to improve the energy efficiency, health and safety, and durability of your home. Q. How do I find out if I'm eligible to receive an incentive?
A. If your househod income is at or below the income listed for your household size, you may qualify for an incentive through Assisted Home Performance with ENERGY STAR.  Click here to view the Income Guidelines.

Q. Are there incentives for apartment building owners?
A. Yes, incentives are available to the owner, if the owner or tenants in a 1 - to 4-family building are income eligible.  Contact us for more information.

Q. Will a home inspection include a carbon monoxide check?
A. Yes.  We will check carbon monoxide levels when doing a home assessment.  Should a carbon monoxide problem be present, we must correct it before any other work can be done on the home.

Green Jobs-Green New York Free or Reduced Cost Energy Audit

Green Jobs-Green New York (GJGNY) provides income eligible owners of one to four unit residential buildings the opportunity to receive a free, or reduced cost residential energy audit.

To qualify for a free or reduced cost residential energy audit an applicant must:

  • Own the one to four unit residential building
  • Have a total household income below appropriate income levels noted on the application form (most residents of New York state qualify). If you live in Erie of Niagara County and have a household income less than $127,400, your energy Audit is FREE! Income Guidelines
  • Have not previously received a free or reduced cost audit
  • Have filled out and properly submitted a Green Jobs-Green New York free or reduced energy audit application
  • And, provided a summary of the annual electric and heating usage for the building as required by the application (a utility bill that lists annual usage and or a 12 to 24 month summary from an oil or propane vendor).

Don't Wait! Free or reduced cost residential energy audits are available on a first come, first served basis until funds are fully committed.

Applicants that meet the eligibility and supporting documentation requirements will receive a Reservation Number along with terms and conditions from the Program.

Applicants will have 90 days to have their residential energy audits completed by a Participating Home Performance with ENERGY STAR contractor.
